Unauthorized pp charges to the tune of $1000. UPDATE.
All $1000 worth of charges cleared our bank account this morning. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Paypal said they will give the sellers 10 days to refund us. If they refuse, pp will refund and go after the seller to refund them. I haven’t found pp to be overly helpful in this situation. As of this morning they were still determining if the lesser charges were fraud or not (even after determining the two other charges from the same day were definitely fraud). I will definitely not feel okay about this until the money is refunded to our account. Right now we are at negative $1000. Neither pp nor our bank would stop them from going through. :yuck:

I noticed a couple of $30 paypal transactions go through our bank account today. Since I’m typically the one who uses it, it caught me off guard. I asked DH about it and he said he hadn’t purchased anything…. he had assumed it was diapers.

We go out and look in our paypal account and there have been $1060 of transactions made to our account yesterday. Two for $30, one for $350, and one for $650.

DH called pp and they said there is nothing they will do… we need to fight it through our bank account. Even though the two bigger amounts are marked by pp as questionable. They won’t take our word on it. They will either put it through or they won’t? Our bank said they can’t stop payment without a 3 day notice, but they will fight fraud charges AFTER the $1000 clears our account. Paypal said that our password was put in so that the charges were made through a phishing scheme. I don’t understand how this could have happened. I’ve never followed a link or an email to paypal.

I am obviously furious and terrified that we may be $1000 under for nothing. DH said when this is over the pp account is closed. Does anyone have experience with this? For the record, I’ve never had any pp problem before. For every transaction to go smoothly for years and then be hit by $1000 of fraud is terrifying me…

Man that’s gotta hurt.

    oh man that stinks.

  2. piratebaby says:

similar thing happened to us last oct. it was 2 different sellers, totaled $250. it cleared our acct, then the money was returned, then it was taken out AGAIN. took almost a month to get it completely cleared up, and then because we had ‘pending transactions’ we couldn’t even remove our bank acct from pp! i only use our cc that has a VERY low limit, that way it doesn’t screw with my regular budget if it gets messed with.

  3. amanda says:

It’s happened to us before, too, although not for that much money. Thank goodness we had a great bank because PP did absolutely nothing.

  4. mamabear says:

Wow. That is insane. I’m kind of not surprised though because ds has all those viruses and god only knows what else and people put their pp emails in the for sale posts. I guess it might not have anything to do with that, but whatever. I don’t see why people don’t move to cdn, clothlove.com, or one of the other virus free boards.

I noticed this response in the above thread:

    http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7032728&postcount=31

And this jumped out at me:

    “Trojan’s, Virus, Malware and such
Like pantufla mentioned, there are so many ways you can get a virus/trojan that could potentially steal your identity aside from giving you all sorts of problems. Even ad-banners on website without the owner of the website knowing could load virus and keyloggers into your computer without you knowing. You see those “Get Anti-Virus Software for FREE!” ads? If they are not from a well known security companies like Symantec, McAfee and others, you need to question it & never click them. There are other programs out there that are free such as AVG and anti-spyware programs like Spyware Doctor (free when you download Google Pack).”

Gee…I wonder how anyone visiting DS would EVER get viruses, trojans, or keyloggers on their computers from ads and pop-ups? Wonder, wonder, wonder…

    And yes, that totally stinks.

  6. try me, i'm new! says:

and THAT is why I will never, ever connect a pp account to our regular bank accounts. I have a special small account for pp, so if anything bad happens, our day to day living is unaffected.

  7. Rain Cloud says:

    That sucks!

  8. StacEy says:

yikes. In other news…any pet hair phobic people should not buy this soaker: http://hyenacart.com/prod_details.php?id=32749&vid=200001

    eeeew.

  9. StacEy says:

I have to add…in that listing it says “no stains” when there is clearly one visible on the waist in the first picture. Any WHO posts big ass pictures with tons of pet hair and doesn’t think, “Hmm, maybe I should wash the soaker and remove all the hair before I try to sell it!”

  10. silver says:

#7 that made me gag and laugh my ass off, all at once.

    gross. seriously.

i must qualify as pet hair phobic.

  11. That was totally bad. Why the hell would you take a pic of dog hair??

  12. werd says:

good lord! wouldn’t you look at those pics and be grossed out yourself? I have a small dog who rarely sheds but I attack everything that leaves this house with a lint roller first, to be safe!!

And that poor OP – I can’t imagine. My bank charges a $35 OD fee and then $30 NSF fees if it gets resubmitted, what a nightmare!

  13. TL says:

#8 uuugghhhh thats so gross, I saw the first pic and thought it wasn’t too bad then saw the other ones and that almost made me gag! gross!! seriously pick the hair off lol.

  14. I couldn’t see the flaws, only the dog hair. Gross!

  15. Angie says:

Beware! Moments ago, we got a phone call supposedly from our credit card company, indicating a third party had accessed our account and to enter our account information to be connected to a fraud department agent. We hung up right away and called our credit card company directly, and they confirmed it was a scam.

This is beyond the internet, ladies. The fraud person I talked with said that the public knows now not to enter info online or in emails now, so they are trying the phone. He said they’ve just started seeing this happen recently and to never give account info to anyone unless you’ve gone directly through the source. Never, ever trust a third party.

  16. Angie says:

Forgot to add, the people calling may not have known we had a card with this company. The company is widely used though, so it was just a coincidence that we used the same company.

  17. AshleyB says:

Wow! Doesn’t surprise me with the DS viruses, but that still SUCKS!! Everyone needs to go to a CLEAN site like clothdiapernation.com

  18. naturalmamadot says:

wow doesnt surprise me in the least, but still scary!

  19. not just another mama says:

Ugh that soaker makes me SNEEZE!!

  20. itsraininghere says:

    that soaker is just sad.

what i find more sad is that someone will pay the asking price for it, and just say “i can wash it. . . it’s sbish!”

    blech.

  21. Booyah says:

OUCH. Paypal seems to have their thumb up their ass as usual. That sucks so bad for that mama. I would be crying and shitting myself simultaneously.

  22. pippen says:

seriously!! that is just nasty. and an obviously huge dirt mark on it. i’d be embarrassed to post something like that for sale.

    so sorry for op.

  23. Incognizable says:

nasty nasty nasty, I like dogs just as much as the next person, but shit thats just wrong…

  24. haha says:

Oh poor Stacy! This situation really sucks.

  25. Jenn says:

That soaker is NASTY. Pet hair Roller anyone??? Good lord…take a little pride in your listings.

  26. oops says:

#8 EEWWWW! LOL! Who would buy it GAG!

  27. insomiac says:

that really sucks about paypal. that shit seriously scares the hell out of me.

    #8
    GAG.
That is the grossest soaker. I cannot believe anyone would actually have the balls to list it like that, stained and covered in pet hair?WTF?
    Are they serious?
Then I expect it will only be a couple bucks and it is $25?!

I swear to god, there are some nasty ass people.

  28. Bloggitybloggity says:

8- LMAO, I posted about that over in the “Aint that some Ish” thread.

I saw it, nearly vomited, then decided to share over here because nobody else would give a shit. (Or they would… but it would be all “poor mama, she probably didn’t notice, blah, blah, blah.”)

I most certainly will not be paying $25 for a hair-encrusted, wonky-sized, stained up wool soaker. Who cares what brand it is? It’s nothing but nasty now.

Hopefully no one will be desperate enough to buy it and she’ll end up washing it and picking the fur off before she attempts to sell it again. I would sleep much better knowing that soaker isn’t still out there covered in icky pet hair. LOL

  29. Stacey 2 says:

Probably no one will come back to check this thread, but just in case… We were able to get a full refund ten days later. Paypal contacted the sellers and told them the items were fraudulently purchased. The sellers refunded us. Apparently there was a longer hang up with some of the money getting “stuck” in pp land. But, it is all back in our bank account. Whew.
