I know where I am NOT shopping for Christmas…

I commented on this in another thread, but figured I would comment here too.

Looks like HC is letting a lot of this happen recently.

Recent Scammers (and this is off the top of my head):

My Little Elephant

Zum Design Company

I won’t be doing my holiday shopping from DS or Hyena Cart this year, that’s for sure. I can’t afford to be out the money.

Who monitors hyenacart? Added- Etsy?

How is it that a person can open a new cart after loosing their other cart for negative feedback? I’m pretty sure the same person is still in mediation on a few boards for unfulfilled transactions as well

  1. AshleyB says:

Not all HC/DS/Etsy mama’s are bad…just check feedback everywhere you can! NOT fair to generalize over a few bad mama’s.

  2. DSDM2 says:

Ashley, I understand your feelings, but some of these are “when good wahms go bad”, and others are just bad. There is no way to know who to trust anymore. 😦 It breaks my heart. I am done online shopping all together this year I think. Too much of this going around.

  3. Mud says:

So, what 4, 5 shops spoil the barrel? There are hundreds of great WAHMs out there, I think this is a little over the top, no?

  4. DSDM2 says:

I forgot KID, Sam from DT’s hc.

It isn’t over the top for me, I can’t afford to risk it. There is no recourse, these women just do it over and over…

  5. crystal says:

I was wondering how you could determine who was legit or not 😦 I’ve seen some where their feedback is awesome, then bam they are not shipping or communicating 😦 I mean I would rather support other WAHM’s, but I don’t want to get screwed over either

  6. What a Wanker says:

Wow, I love doing my shopping at HC and will continue to do so. That makes me so sad that someone can let a couple of bad apples make them not want to shop with some really awesome WAHM’s that are really great and really need the money for their own children at the holidays.

I for one would never let that stop me. Check feedback, use reliable sources, check how long they have been on HC and you will be doing well. But to just say -no way, no how-not even one shop will get my $, well, that just makes me sad and disappointed.

  7. just_sayin says:

I can see where you are coming from. When you have a deadline, like Christmas, and a limited budget, then I can see where shopping HC is too risky. I have and will keep shopping there, probably, because overall I have had good transactions. But it is a greater risk than shopping Best Buy or something.

Speaking of transactions, I thought this was ironic. Joyful Tie Dyes bitching about CS:

And her very own JA report:

  8. eeek says:

I always shop with a credit card, and assume anything I buy that falls through I can charge back on. I have seen enough BUYER-scammer controversies to know that works, CCs will suck the money back from PP even if PP doesn’t have the cash in the seller’s account. You just have to pay attention.

I’ve only had to do that one time, many years ago, and it was with a “real” company, not a WAHM, but when I called my CC & told them I was sent misrepresented stuff & the seller wouldn’t let me return it, they told me to send it back registered & they immediately reversed the charge for me. They said it was then up to the seller to prove their case & since I had a receipt that said they got the stuff back, the seller never did anything.

Without that I’d agree it’s scary sending money off into the night. I feel safe the way things are, though.

  9. werd says:

#7 – oh christ, that is fucking Michele from DIXIE BABIES who filed that JA! It’s an irony within irony… ugh.

I have a HC and I’m seriously considering just closing up shop. Too many bad experiences are tainting good buyers from shopping anywhere but like sbish, mutt, etc – the well known ones who are rolling in dough.

It sucks to be an unknown WAHM 😦

  10. JustPeachy says:

I won’t stop buying HC but Im very cautious with my purchases. I’ve come to know a few HC wahms thru the HC forums so that makes me feel comfortable. I would never purchase from someone with no feedback and who posts sporadically just as I would on DS.

  11. MamaGeek says:

When did a disagreement mean everyone can sling insults? Seriously:

Grow up. If it’s just 50 cents, why do you care so much? I know a lot of people I won’t be buying from…and it isn’t because they ask for CC fees. Yeesh.

  12. crystal says:

justpeachy says “I would never purchase from someone with no feedback ” I have no feedback on HC because I am new, but I also don’t post in the forums there because for some reason I can’t get my password/username to work there. So what would you recommend for a newbie to get started so people realize they are not scammers?

  13. DSDM2 says:

That JAR (if I am not mistaken) was falsely filed after the WAHM filed one on Sam from DT.

From what I remember Sam got “Dixie” Michelle to file it b/c someone filed on her for a DT co-op or something. It is all there on the JA though… off to look.

  14. DSDM2 says:

oops, scratch that, that was an old one I am thinking of, off to get that link.

  15. DSDM2 says:

Ok, got it all backwards, lol. One too many beers tonight I guess, lol.

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JuicyAppleReport/message/800 and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JuicyAppleReport/message/805

Jackie filed on Michelle/Dixie and then Sam filed on Jackie for doing it b/c Michelle was running open co-ops on DT. Here is where Sam is called out on it, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JuicyAppleReport/message/808

The JAR had to put everyone on moderation after that.

  16. cdmd1023 says:

I also have an HC and Im sad to read this. I have never had an issue with anyone and c/s is very very important to me. I hope you change your mind, there are still many good wahms on hc.

  17. Kali Ma says:

Here’s another one whose HC (and store) I won’t buy from anymore: http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=610243

I’m done with her poor diaper quality and yucky customer service.

I do still shop on HC, but I’m very particular these days.

  18. Yup says:

Checking fb isn’t always reliable. Stacy has figured out, all you have to do is close down shop and open a new one under a relatives name. There is no way to trace fb back to the original store unless you can read through the lines.

  19. Bloo♥ says:

Well I am not going to let some rotten tomatoes spoil Etsy or HC for me. I LOVE the bag my husband ordered me this month from Glam Baby 🙂

  20. What a Wanker says:

Yup (#18), you can also easily check to see how long a cart has been on HC. First, on the Calender page, you can sort by Join Date, and all those at or near the top are the oldest on HC.

Second, at the very bottom of each cart’s main page it will tell you how long that cart has been hosted on HC (as an example, first one for Sunday this week) “Dianne’s Diapers has been hosted on Hyena Cart since Mar 2007 ” So you know if it’s a new cart or not. Just limit yourself to those at or near the top of the join dates and you are going to be safer. Then check feedback for those carts and that will also help.

This may not 100% protect you, but it’s certainly not hit and miss. I don’t even look at the bottom of the join date listings. But I do look at the top ones.

For those who are new to HC, try doing some FFS lotteries, or HC$ sales. Get your stuff out there and show how great you are without asking the customers to stick their neck out too far.

  21. werd says:

I think your best bet is to communicate with the seller. I sell on DS and currently have a lot of customs going – every day I update in my WAHM thread, what is done, what is in progress, what has been shipped, etc.

I always hated buying something, and then never hearing from the seller again… spending a few days worrying, etc. until it came in the mail. I keep close communication with everyone who buys from me… if its a custom item, I even send pictures as I complete their items.

It really sucks that so much fraud and drama has happened regarding FSOT, but don’t lose hope. There are still a bunch of hard-working, honest WAHM’s out there!

  22. Rika says:

While I’m not afraid of shopping on HC, I do limit my purchases there to just baby items. I haven’t seen anything there that I’d buy as a gift for anyone. Don’t get me wrong, there are many cute items, just not items that my family/friends would like to receive.

I’m assuming the WAHM in question (link in #17) is the usual store that is known for crap CS? I don’t know why she bothers with an HC store – the few auctions she has aren’t exactly fab and most of her lotteries have less than 5 entrants. I don’t even think she can be considered a “well sought after” WAHM anymore.

Anyway, If you own a diaper from said WAHM and it is in need of repair – even if it’s within the repair time frame – don’t bother. It’ll take 2.5 months to get the diaper fixed and returned to you. Ridiculous.

  23. What a Wanker says:

#22 we are allowed to say the name here-I’m assuming it’s Muttaqin Baby? I could be wrong though.

  24. mamapixie says:

I was leary of WAHM’s before DS(bad experiences in the past) but my most recent problem has sworn me off of WAHM’s for good now. 2 1/2 weeks to receive wool wash. The custom longies I had a friend start the same day were finished, and received by me before I got the wash.

  25. ABCDEFG says:

I think that most of the thread is discussing Mutts. Some folks on there were discussing GM’s.

  26. Erin says:

#18, ITA. Stacy does have it all figured out- now she can claim ignorance. Lovely. HC and Etsy are really stupid to allow her “mom” to open up a shop with all Stacy’s products.

While I was scammed by Stacy, it hasn’t sworn me off WAHM’s in general, but I understand how you feel completely.

  27. JustPeachy says:

#12 contact the HC support about getting your username working. You’d be amazed at how a regular presence on the HC forums can help your business. I know alot of new wahms get great advice from buyers and even sellers on how to get their business going.

  28. JustPeachy says:

O/T I had to share this cus I thought you mamas would get a kick out of this.
Look at the name of the product and tell me that doesn’t make you go WTF!

  29. eeek says:

Peachy, she has always been a bit, umm, off…. she had some seriously icky diapers for a long time. I’m always amazed at how many people will buy things that are flat out OBVIOUSLY badly sewn, just because they’re cheap. I wouldn’t have even called those things testers.

  30. Nosey Neighbour says:

Are you serious??? Michelle doesn’t fix the elastic on her dipes anymore? WTF?

  31. Kate says:

Um I think that she needs to research that term

din⋅gle⋅ber⋅ry   /ˈdɪŋgəlˌbɛri/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [ding-guhl-ber-ee] Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun, plural -ries. Slang. a small clot of dung, as clinging to the hindquarters of an animal.

1920–25; perh. dingle + berry; perh. by assoc. with dangle

  32. just_sayin says:

    Wow… Dingleberries.

Did anyone see the crotch rocket? http://hyenacart.com/luulah/index.php?p=20646

I’m sorry, I’m not a prude or anything, but that’s just WRONG.

  33. AshleyB says:

Uh…wow! That’s an interesting name for your product!!

  34. JustPeachy says:

    Interesting is an understatement Ashley

  35. notmeatall says:

    # 17 who are you talking about? I only see GMDs on the DS OPs HC? I don’t think she makes diapers.

Or do you know who all the other people are talking about on this thread? Is it Mutts? Those have really gone down hill.

  36. crystal says:

Thanks Peach, I’ll look into getting it figured out..

and WTF about the dingleberries?!?! eww

  37. Rain Cloud says:

LOL at LuvBug soaps! That is so gross to name them that!

I can’t believe this is happening to Mutts. I must need to lurk more!

  38. JustPeachy says:

#33 how about breaking wind longies LOL.

  39. thewhiteninja says:

Back in ’03 there was a WAHM dipe called DingleBerries too! LOL! The name is def. a turn off.

  40. thewhiteninja says:

Have Mutts (the actual diaper) gone downhill or just the CS?

  41. Kali Ma says:

#41 I personally think the quality has gone downhill too. I’ve heard of a number of mamas say the elastic has gone bad in just a month or two of use, others have spoke of snap and serging issues. I read on one board where a mama bought a Mutt off the HC -it was an auction and this was a while ago where the auctions were going for more- she won and paid and it was never mailed. She sent multiple emails and they all went unanswered. I’ve heard of other moms not getting emails answered (even ones about diaper issues), myself included. Oh and I’ve been on the custom list since April and I’m still waiting. I’m not holding my breath nor do I want her diapers anymore.

  42. thewhiteninja says:

Ahhh ok. I haven’t bought a Mutt in months but I do love the several I own.

  43. werd says:

ooooh yeah when I jump into the shower to clean myself off, I would LOOOOOVE to rub Dingle Berries all over my dirty self!!!

    L. O. L.

  44. mickee311 says:

Oh man, I seriously LOL’ed at the Dingleberry soap. Come on, how can one NOT know what that means? Haha I’m showing the link to my mom….

  45. eeek says:

I wonder if Mutt’s “customer service” wench is behind the mess, that’s something that always scares me about hiring someone for that stuff even though it’d be lovely to have someone to deal with it. If the contact person falls through, how the hell would you know, since THEY would be the one getting the nasty emails?

Though the quality is, of course, not her fault. It’s whomever she hired to sew- & I know she always says she sews them all herself, but I’ve always thought that was a ridiculous statement. She has gone through phases of stocking dozens a day, no one can sew that many alone.

  46. just_sayin says:

#46, I’m pretty sure that she admits they are “outsourced” now.

I heard that she did a trade with another WAHM, the WAHM would do some dyes for her and then Mutts would send her diapers. Mutts got the dyes, made diapers out of them and sold them, and then she never sent the other WAHM anything.

I have had several transactions with Mutts over the years, and I have never had any issues, either with the diapers or the CS, FTR.

  47. AshleyB says:

I’m very UN impressed with Mutt’s c/s rep. She is just too UNprofessional all over DS, and she really should be since she is chatting on a cloth diaper board, with Mutt c/s rep in her siggy!!

  48. lilgamoma says:

    #6 & #20 (just a wanker) ITA and couldn’t say it better. 🙂

  49. Rika says:

#48 My thoughts exactly. I’m very surprised she’s allowed to do it. Maybe she doesn’t take her job seriously? Or maybe Michelle condones her behaviour/comments? Or doesn’t read DS?

While she’s welcome to have her own opinions and participate on the boards outside of the CD area, it’s poor judgement (among other things) on her part to do it with that in her signature. Perhaps she doesn’t realize that with it there, she’s automatically made herself a representative of that business and anything she posts reflects on MB whether it’s intentional or not. Usually people put their positions/employers in their sigs to help with their credibility, but how often does she speak on behalf of MB? I’m guessing she posts more personal stuff than MB-related stuff.

I know Becky (as well as Suzanne) from GM often talks on the boards, but she sticks to the GM-related threads, no? I’ve never lifted an eyebrow to anything she’s said, but that’s because it’s usually about GMs or babies and I’m fairly certain she doesn’t use her GM-related username outside of the Extra Fluffy forum.

And FTR, when I’ve had to contact Mutt CS, dealing with her was all right, but there was definite room for improvement. Her replies were very casual (which, in my case, was fine), but when she said she’d get back to me, she never did and I had to follow up.

  50. tiredmama says:

When I sent an email to mutt cs I never got a response. I sent 4 and after a week of no response found Michelle’s email addy and sent her one. I immediately had a response.

  51. tcm says:

Yeah, I emailed twice about two soakers I have that have serging that’s completely torn apart (after two washes). Still haven’t received a response, and I’m taking it to mean they don’t care about my business, and I’m never buying another Mutt. Ever.

And ITA about the CS rep. She may love her some Mutts, but that doesn’t mean she’s capable of handling that position. She’s rubbed me the wrong way several times across DS.

  52. AshleyB says:

One thing about her that I found REALLY funny: she was selling an Ooga Booga mutt the other day…and her ISO for trading it was 1 BNIP BG 3.0, or 2 used BG’s!! NOT other Mutts! THAT says something when she is looking to trade the diap she is representing for a BumGenius.

  53. Bloo♥ says:

#53 I don’t really think that says anything she can use other diapers if she wants can’t she? I know I don’t want to use fitteds all the time when we are out running errands I would rather use a pocket or AIO.

  54. AshleyB says:

Yes she can…but still, with the Mutt c/s tag in her signature, she shouldn’t be actively hunting out OTHER diap’s! Especially when the diap she is c/s for is having quality issues (because if others are complaining about the bad quality and SHE isn’t standing behind them, why would I want to buy one)!

  55. Funneh says:

I’ve never had a quality issue with Mutts (some loose random threads here and there, but all they needed was to be trimmed; in retrospect, that’s one of those no-big-deal things that should probably be handled by the business for the sake of product appearance though).

But CS, pfft. When working on customs, I could get instant responses from Michelle if I was talking directly about sending money, but none otherwise. Toward the end of my order the new CS rep came in. There was a small fiasco where Michelle more or less ignored several emails and a note in PP involving my final order total and left out one of the diapers I’d ordered and paid for.

I had to forward the emails I’d sent about it/the information from the Paypal transaction so they could look at the actual payment itself/see the numbers and the note with the payment detailing specifics more than once before I was refunded. And prior to that (after I had already sent all the information once) it was insinuated that they did not believe I was owed anything and was making it up. Ugh – took several weeks and was completely not worth the hassle, really.

  56. Funneh says:

Ahem. That said, I really don’t have any particular issues with the CS representative herself. I just think everyone over there is more than a little sloppy business-wise. It’s a shame, but I haven’t bought any Mutts since and never will again. Not worth it.

  57. AshleyB says:

Off topic, but WHAT is with rude mods *Tara*! Am I the only one who finds her incredibly rude most of the time?!

  58. iloveflatcake says:

I missed this. Anyone know which HC this is about?

  59. liljoeysmom says:

AshleyB I completely agree! I’m sure that other WAHMs use brands other than their own but you don’t see them publically searching them out. Makes me wonder about the quality if the employees prefer other brands.

  60. JustPeachy says:

Ashley and #58 I have seen Michelle publicly seeking out GMs and various other dipes for trades for Mutts soooooooooo make of that what you will.

  61. Rachel says:

I love HC and Etsy… fortunately other than an issue with Little Green Elephant I’ve never had a problem. I buy from the same WAHM’S repeatedly though, these are women who have proven to me that they can be trusted.

I really hate that all this is going on. It’s a shame because it damages business for the honest, hard-working WAHM’s who are trying to earn an honest living. And it’s a shame for the rest of us because we miss out on wonderful products since we’re afraid of being scammed.

    Huge bummer!

  62. werd says:

I’m a WAHM and I really only use my diapers – the exception is when I use prefolds (which is often). My daughter gets all my OOPS diapers LOL. I own 1 GM and it friggen sucks and I keep having problems with it but B/S/T sucks right now so I’ll have to hang onto it until I can actually sell it!

  63. AshleyB says:

Yeah, I do the WAHM thing some too and only use my product…but that’s me. AND, Michelle shouldn’t be publically searching out others diap’s…though I know a while back she did a trade of one of her diap’s for a Piddle Poddle she hunted out…which speaks volumes for these other diap’s being sought after by her!

  64. Nosey Neighbour says:

Anybody notice that the stocking emails are becoming sweet and personal again. Hopefully, one of them will say “we are now fixing the crappy elastic on our dipes again”.

  65. JustPeachy says:

#65 Probably because she figured out no one is buying because she comes off as rude in emails and her CS sucks.

  66. jeruco says:

All the deals imply that sales are not as good for her.
That could be part economy and part QC issues. I dont know.

Out of every diaper maker I have to say that Mutts has the worst CS around.
Just a complete lack of response all together.

  67. liljoeysmom says:

Tara is such a bitch! Is she truly incapable of being pleasant? Not to mention the OP posted the question 3 days ago. Obviously DS is working on something behind the scenes and they’ll play dumb until it’s sprung on us like the co-op forum change.

Has anyone who was in an open co-op not registered for the new forum? There is no way in hell I’d give Tara my personal information!

  68. thewhiteninja says:

    Tara pings my racist radar.

  69. What a Wanker says:

I’ve though Tara was a nasty bitch for a LONG time.

  70. Mud says:

#59, I am going to with Missy’s Tempting Tarts.
Lists everything as a lotto, charges huge shipping.

  71. tweedledee*dee says:

    #59 Missy’s Tempting Treats

  72. Nosey Neighbour says:

What a crock that chick is. And her shit is just that, shit!!!

  73. haha says:

Missy’s Tempting Treats is just crap! I entered a FFS lottery over a year ago and then a friend brought it to my attention that shipping was 21 dollars for a burner and 4 tarts. Screw that. And her disclaimer is new…hasn’t been there that long and certainly wasn’t there when I “won” the FFS lotteries.

  74. just another lurker says:

Anyone looked the the DS Raffle Rama? For a $10 *donation* you get one entry. Proceeds will go towards “community enhancements”. Does that include lining Lee’s pockets?

  75. liljoeysmom says:

I will be SHOCKED if a real DS winner wins the larger prizes. The totally her winners were very shady. If these “donations” are for site enhancement what does all the site supporter money go to? Anyone know who is actually behind the totally her and DS on twitter? My guess is Juan.

  76. AshleyB says:

Yeah…I want to know what “site enhancements” they need, too! Is it an antivirus fund? They NEED one, but supposedly they don’t have a virus problem so it can’t be that! The whole thing is shit.

  77. JustAMama says:

wait what’s up with the co-op forums? I did notice that I see swaps but not co-ops.. did they change things AGAIN??

And re: twitter, I’d bet on Juan. Ass-muncher.

  78. JustAMama says:

Oh btw DSDM/DSDM2 I like the new layout 🙂 Took me by surprise at first but it’s cool!

  79. Angie says:

Also, check how long they have been in business. It says right on top of the HC.
