 Someone stole from me.I sold four skeins of Mosaic Moon on Spots a few months back. The mama requested priority shipping. Total was around $104. While my husband, who sends out most of my packages, forgot to send it that way, it does not confer upon the package insurance, and my listing read that unless you purchased insurance, I am not responsible for a package once it leaves my hands.
So she claimed to not have received the package. We spent two weeks going back and forth with the “nothing here yet” thing, “checked with my post office again” yada yada. So I was about to issue her a full refund when my postal worker made it clear to me that priority doesn’t insure the package anyway, only gets it there a day or two faster. Priority is not insurance. And of course, the disclaimer in my listing. So when I emailed her about this, I said, “Look, it sucks for both of us that this happened, and I feel bad. How do you feel about splitting the loss, hence a refund of $52?” She jumped on it. Never once made a peep about it. And I waited to refund another 4 days maybe, and she kept emailing, “Just wanted to check and make sure you got my email. I’m fine with the $54. My PP is….” I felt a tiny nagging suspicion in the back of my mind, but really, I just didn’t think anyone could be that devious. I’m a mama of 7 kids, and she knew that. Who would rip me off? My husband was unemployed! So last night I’m looking through Spots, and sure enough, there she is, selling two of the four skeins of MY freakin’ yarn, the very yarn I sold her, that she said she didn’t receive! I felt absolutely sick to my stomach. Sick. Even now as I type, I feel just absolute disgust, my stomach gets knots. I messaged the mods on HC, but I really don’t know what to do or if I have any recourse. The funny thing is, with all the sending and receiving of packages that I’ve done over the years, I have never once lost a package, on either end, and almost never get insurance. At least my faith in the postal system has been restored. My faith in the HC community however, has taken a serious hit. Who are these people? Why would you steal from a mom, I just can’t understand it. How can she even look her kids in the face? Shame. So I got some advice from a friend who frequents both HC and DS, and she recommended I post the story here. I am never on DS. I’m mostly an HCer, and I don’t have any more littles in cloth, so I spend a lot more of my time on Ravelry. I have perfect feedback everywhere. What can I do? What should I do? |

Ugh. I feel sick to my stomach you guys. Someone just contacted me with some…well, proof. Honestly…over $50? Why would you steal from someone, totally sacrifice your morals, your standing with God, your integrity, over $50? Ya know, some people would find certain practices questionable for a MILLION dollars….so fifty?? Fifty bucks??? My husband was unemployed at that time you guys. We were struggling. Seven kids. No unemployment because my husband was an auto worker and had already collected his limit in the last year and a half, on and off with work. We had just gone through my oldest son’s second open heart surgery in October. What is wrong with her?

I really wish I could copy and paste the last three emails she just sent me. She’s freakin’ crazy, y’all. In the span of 15 minutes, she sent me three emails. The first two were denial, how dare you, I know legal people too, yada yada. She also pulled the listing, of course, and said she was taking down her photobucket account. Said she should’ve known I would think this, and that I must just have a general distrust of people. ROFL! The third one was: just talked to my dh, he’s gonna go check the PO’s lost and found cuz we haven’t checked in months (this was JUST early March, and does a PO HAVE a lost and found for packages??), but we decided since this yarn was gifted to me by a friend, I’m just gonna go ahead and send you the $50, and hopefully the yarn will be sitting in the PO right now and neither of us will be out anything. What’s your PP addy? I mean……….ugh……..I just have no words. Just freakin’ BEYOND disgusted. She did pull the listing, but I did save her yarn pics to my computer, so those are still there. She still has other stuff for sale on HC too, which freaks me out for other people. I mean, even if I was her first scam, she’s lost all trustworthiness with the community. Period. She should be outed. Are there any mods even paying attention to this? I can send the emails and pics and everything to anyone who needs to view this to confirm it as a theft. |

I am the mam Sara is talking about. I am not ‘crazy ya’ll’ Ive been on here a LONG time and have good repore and FB with most everyone. As well as good FB on HC. Im not going to sit here and defend myself since It obviously does not matter to any of you. I had, as someone said, other skeins of this yarn. Sara’s never arrived. We are now looking for it at a neighbors house where the PM said it may have been delivered a few weeks ago. But again, I am not going to bother all you with that, since you’ve all obviously made up your mind and are quick to believe without hearing both sides. Great community of mama’s here. I would think the reputation would stand for something. But no, its more fun to believe the worst about someone. Sara might want to inform everyone that the situation has been remedied and hopefully her yarn is at my neighbors house. But since nobody seems to care, and just wants to believe the worst of mr, you will never know. Please stop sending me nasty emails and ‘hate’ emails. Whoever is doing so, grow up. And if it makes you feel better to threaten me, so be it. I dont have to read the emails.

You guys, I described the subtle similarities I found when comparing our two yarn pics that made me feel absolutely sure. And I think most decent people take serious pause before they say, “Yup, I’m sure. She stole from me.” Which I did.
She emailed me a story about the PO today too which I know to be false because I SPOKE to her PO today. The fact that she is contriving such an elaborate story is…..sad, and disturbing.

Every time someone sends me something without DC, I always think how glad I am that it was sent to me and not someone who would claim it missing. I always debate with myself whether I should PM the seller and let them know they should get DC. I usually don’t, but I think I will from now on. I’ve even got things from WAHMs with no DC.
Why would the PO suddenly be sure that the yarn is sitting at her neighbors house?
Somebody, anybody, before people suddenly realizing who it is, freak out and think Sara is lying, post on that thread (before it goes poof) that there are screen shots proving that she’s lying.

This site should be required reading for anyone who buys on DS or HC/Spots. Not just because it’s entertaining, but also because it can help newbs avoid getting scammed.
17- In regards to MY SS, at 2:41EST, she said that the skeins WERE at her neighbors house, and had been for months. Then, at 3:09EST, she states on DS that they *might* be there, because her PO says they were delivered there. Either the yarn is there, or it’s not. She told ME it was.
Suddenly, the PO remembers it was delivered to the wrong address? No. All the PO has for tracking is the zip code to which things are delivered, not a house number.
20, I already asked her about that! No response, yet.. haha
21- I saw that. LOL. I doubt she’ll respond, as I wrote the same thing back to her in response to her email, and she’s ignoring me…. though to her credit she said she wasn’t opening any more emails from the HC listing.

18-Whoops, forgot to respond. That’s the same guy. The old pics you see of my baby boy post-op are my oldest Asher, who is 12 now. And you see him as he is now in the second set of post-op pics, after his second open-heart surgery last October. He’s doing well, thank you. I keep all my pics in my Kodak albums online, and then upload certain ones to PB to post to Ravelry, for whatever reasons. Those surgery pics were to one of my Rav groups, who I’ve become good friends with (even met one last weekend!), to give praise and thanks for the success and miracle of my son’s surgeries. He has multiple heart/pulmonary vein defects, he’s asplenic (no spleen, born that way), and heterotaxic (organs–stomach, liver–are flip-flopped).
Anyway, off I go!
27- My cousin was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, among other similar defects. He lives with Jesus and the angels now. I’m so happy for your son. <3

Yes, it’s true it could have been avoided with a DC but seller had her hubby take it to the post office. I have my husband take my stuff to the post office but send my things with postage printed and affixed. I if I just gave him an address, he’d probably forget that I asked him to get DC – it doesn’t get repeated ad nauseum in his forums so why would he even think of it. I know I never mailed stuff with a D.C. before I joined DS. So my stuff would get mailed off, maybe first class instead of priority, almost certainly not D.C.
49 – That is so true. My DH barely gets to the PO on the day I give him the package, let alone remember what kind of mailer to get to put it in, buying dc, remembering where I wrote down the address. And, prior to DS I didn’t ever mail anything, so I was totally clueless. Unfortunately it takes people getting burned before they figure things out sometimes.

When I have sold something, I always get DC, unless it is out of the country. If I send my husband with the stuff to the PO, I always give him a list of how I want each pkg sent, and to get DC, and to make sure he gives me all the receipts when he gets home. Just a good habit to get into if you are having your DH send stuff off for you.
I am glad that Sara got her money back. And I can’t believe how stupid Nikkiof5 was to post pictures, knowing that Sara had pics in PB, of the exact same stuff. Glad she failed at scamming!

They didn’t take into account that you are a newbie by post count and may not be familiar with the culture. While I could totally follow your original post, they might have taken it a little further than I would have with a new person. It would hardly have been looked askance by someone with a 1000 posts under her belt because she’d have seen it happen all the time (to other people at least).

96, rep’s pretty meaningless actually. Sort of a semi-private way to send a message to someone about their posts. Positive rep makes your total # go up and negative rep subtracts. Most people rarely neg rep unless someone is being twatariffic.

Some people really have issues like that. I was once friends with a klepto who tried stealing stuff from me and even when I went through her stuff in front of her as part of a confrontation, she kept denying it. Sad.
I think very few people are (or think they are) in the “in crowd” on CDN. Every time I think I even know who is in the “in crowd” there is a snit and it changes. I’d bet money no one really knows me much there, but I don’t let it bug me.
You just kinda pretend you know what you are doing, and practice the phrase, “oops, my bad” when someone asks you why you are doing an interpretive dance in the men’s room.

Sara, you really need to forward that email to Admin on DS. The Admin who closed your thread said she’d be looking into it. Recently, DS banned another scammer (Cwise87) for scamming another board & lying about her info on DS.
CDN is def. cliquish, but really, what site isn’t? Did I spell “cliquish” right? Lol. I don’t mind though. There’s valuable info, smart people, and I know that if I do get scammed on there, it will be taken care of and not swept under the rug. And by “cliquish” i mean there’s a lot of inside jokes and stuff that when you ask, people just kind of poke fun and get mysterious and don’t explain. I think a lot of people there are really really cautious, which I like.

There’s no way that Nikki was going to be able to lie her way out of this scam. The photos don’t lie. That skein in each pic was identical, regardless of one being photographed flipped around in the other photo. I personally would do the Juicy Apple report, etc., though. Just because she’s only been caught once doesn’t mean she won’t try again. She might try something smarter next time. She might think out her story first, for one.
I just don’t get why someone with generally good feedback chooses to risk it all over $100 of yarn. Pretty yarn to be sure, but yarn. I mean, it’s just so stupid and lame! What was she thinking? Why now? I’d like to think that her circumstances have changed otherwise everyone who’s ever had a transaction with her could have been a delivery confirmation of something similar.

136- Can you even grasp what this website is for? DS doesn’t allow scammers to be outed, so when people have an issue, lots of times they come here. Yes, multiple people, WAHMs included, who have nothing to do with the original transaction, get involved. They find evidence and often help get the situation resolved, all while warning the rest of the CD community about scammers, because DS will not allow it. There are also many instances in which the women here have caught some one screaming, “I’ve been scammed!” actually being the scammer and attempting to sully some one’s good name. If it weren’t for the blog here, there’d be a lot more scamming going on, and if helping innocent people who prove themselves to be trustworthy (like Sara here) makes me ridiculous, well then so be it.

I like the idea earlier a member had about requesting pictures of all the wool. If you are telling the truth then resolving this and clearing your name is going to be easy. Please pm or link me to the pictures. It appears to me from the photos earlier that the wool you tried to sell
is the same wool you claimed did not arrive. However, I can also see that the pictures you used to list may not have actually been ones you took. I have seen mamas use pictures that do not belong to them a few times.This is really the only explaination I could come up with as to why the skiens appear to be the same.
If you can’t produce the pictures of all the wool I’m not sure what action will be taken
without consulting the other administrators,but I’m sure something will be done. I’d say at the very least you will be blocked from using the FSOT here.

I was just told that anyone who is selling perfectly round amber beads for under 60 bucks or so isn’t selling real amber, but amber melted and mixed with plastic or just plastic beads. Apparently perfectly round amber beads are extremely costly and many sellers who sell necklaces made with them have been sold bogus beads and don’t know it. Rounded beads are fine and should be real, as well as the chip. I don’t know about the other regular shapes but I’d be wary of those too. I suspect it is difficult or expensive to mill amber into regular shapes.

It seems to me that the boy stuff is always really easy to resell, and the girl stuff is out there in so much more abundance that it hangs around longer-not just for diapers, but clothing too.
I consign mine at a local consignment shop. It is a steep loss, as the shop takes 60%, but I don’t have to do any of the legwork or shipping or worry about returns, etc.

I do agree if you don’t have the time, it can be a good trade off. Swap meets can be good too. I made the most on my last one by sticking around for the latecomers at closing. I made more then than I had all day & I recouped my table fee, too. It might be a good thing to just have stuff in your car and go park there when they close, don’t even rent a table. I’ve considered it.

They have no inserts because the inserts we were using (Joey buns) fell apart, and I don’t have the want to sew them up. They’re all mediums, though. I need to take pictures, I just haven’t made myself do it yet.

Maybe one day we’ll be in an accident, and because of you my son’s life will be saved because he’s still rear facing. And if it weren’t for me knowing, I wouldn’t be obsessed about carseat safety. I wouldn’t be able to help friends properly install carseats so their children are safe. I wouldn’t know any better to tell people to keep their children RFing. So thankyou.

I’m trying to make my own with brown cotton velour on top-that should hide stains pretty well, hehe. But this bamboo velour keeps tempting me….:(
